A friend always used to say, “A magnum bottle of wine is the perfect size for two people if one of them isn’t drinking.” While that may be a bit of an exaggeration, it is true that magnum bottles are excellent choices for group imbibing, and double magnums even more so.

The Merlot has a beautiful ruby colour with garnet flashing around the edges and first reveals a delicate array of berries. This is followed by the alluring aroma of aniseed, cedar and liquorice which are all carried through to the palate.

French oak adds supports while the structure comes from the tannins. The texture is smooth, well-rounded, and lingering to remind you of its balance and elegance.

Perfect with roast leg of lamb or lamb shanks.

Magnum bottles expose double the amount of wine to roughly the same amount of oxygen, lengthening the aging process and keeping wines fresher for longer. Older vintages of wine in magnums are likely to be in better condition than those in 750-milliliter bottles.

Enjoy with: ROAST CHICKEN, SHEPHERD’S PIE

Tasting Notes: CURRANTS, TOBACCO, LIQUORICE

  • Tasting Notes

The wine has a vibrant, dark ruby red colour. A truly splendid nose of black cherry, sweet raspberry and aromatic lavender. The palate is smooth and soft with abundant, juicy redberry fruit, sweet liquorice and exceptionally fine tannin. The finish is clean, long and lingering.

  • Food Complements

Merlot matches with a wide variety of foods because of its position in the middle of the red wine spectrum. Pairs wonderfully with tomato-based pasta dishes, roast chicken, and barbequed lamb chops.

  • Vintage

The season presented a cold winter and a cold spring with good rainfall and a very moderate growing period during summer. This resulted in a later-than-usual harvest and grapes were harvested 14 days later compared to 2020.
