1. New Product - Three Spades Cider

We kicked off 2018 with the exciting release of our brand new Three Spades Cider. This premium cider pays homage to the long history of apples in the Graaff family and as such, it holds special significance for the Graaff family to honour both grape and apple growing traditions. 2. Entering TripAdvisor Hall of Fame

De Grendel proudly joined the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame in June 2018. This comes after previously earning a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for 5 years in a row.

TripAdvisor is the world’s largest travel review website and includes restaurants, hotels, and things to do, making this an incredible achievement.

Offering a well-rounded list of features, including an unmatchable view of Table Mountain, an exquisite restaurant, and award-winning wines, De Grendel is proud to be part of this prestigious Hall of Fame. We would like to especially thank our fans because we couldn’t have done it without your fantastic reviews and support.

3. A long list of restaurant and wine awards

2018 also saw De Grendel winning a host of incredible awards, including awards from the following competitions:

De Grendel Wines Rubaiyat South African Wine of the Year

4. Rubaiyat crowned South African Wine of the Year at CWSA

Furthermore, our flagship wine the De Grendel Rubaiyat 2015 won Double Gold and was named the South African Wine of the Year 2018 at the China Wine and Spirits awards. This has truly been the cherry on top of an already award-winning year and we couldn’t be prouder.

The Rubaiyat is De Grendel’s flagship wine, originally made in 2006 when winemaker Charles Hopkins was asked by Sir David Graaff to create an iconic estate wine. This wine is a classically poetic Bordeaux style blend consisting of a quatrain of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, and is named after Omar Khayyam’s exquisite collection of 1000 Persian love poems from the 10th century, held dear by the late Sir David. As we look back on a truly significant year, we would like to thank our whole team at De Grendel, as well as our customers who have supported us throughout 2018. We look forward to an even better 2019 with you.
