We're delighted to announce that we have won a Gold medal for our 2017 vintage Shiraz at the annual International Wine and Spirits Competition.
Founded in 1969, the IWSC is considered the most prestigious competition of its kind in the world.
The awards given by the IWSC are believed to be among some of the highest honours in the industry. Wines are judged blind by expert panels, selected from over 400 fully experienced and qualified industry judges, and Gold medal winning wines and spirits are re-tasted by the Wine Judging Committee for final endorsement.
Says Charles Hopkins, Cellar Master at De Grendel: “The Shiraz is already showing signs that it will turn into a remarkable wine in a few years. Based on the results from our previous Shiraz vintages, I’m positive that this is only the start of many more awards to follow for this wine.”
This award follows shortly after the Shiraz 2017 also scooped 92 points in the inaugural Shiraz Report by the respected local online publication, Winemag.co.za.
The Shiraz 2017 will marry exceptionally well with pork neck steaks served with a cranberry reduction, a traditional glazed gammon during the festive season and, in particular, with game and venison cuts during cooler months. It already drinks beautifully but can age for approximately another 8 years if cellared correctly.
The wine is priced at R190 per bottle from our online store, Tasting Room, Restaurant and is available at all major retail outlets nationwide.
