De Grendel Sauvignon Blanc 2016 has been announced as one of the top 10 Sauvignon Blancs in South Africa for 2016 by the FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 competition, organized by the South African wine industry’s Sauvignon Blanc Interest Group (SBIG).
The multiple award-winning wine was also awarded the following in 2016: Gold Wine Awards 2016 (Gold), International Wine & Spirits Competition 2016 (Silver) and Vitis Vinifera Awards 2016 (Gold).
“This Sauvignon Blanc is a nice balance between tropical and green flavours. It is well rounded, and although it’s excellent to drink immediately because of balanced acidity, it will also keep well for two to three years,” says De Grendel’s Sir De Villiers Graaff.
He said he was encouraged to learn that 20% of the wines in both the top 10 and top 20 were from the Durbanville Wine Valley, home to the De Grendel Estate. “I predict that in future the awards will grow into a platform to be judged by style and specific regions, which is encouraging for our ward,” he says.
The panel of judges included Neil Ellis, Winemag.co.za’s Christian Eedes, winemakers Wilhelm Pienaar and Narina Cloete as well as Cape Wine Master Winnie Bowman.
The award-winning De Grendel Sauvignon Blanc 2016 is available online at www.degrendel.co.za, at the De Grendel Tasting Room and at the De Grendel Restaurant.
