Sunday, 12 April will see some of the best South African Pinot Noir producers take to the sprawling lawns of the Vineyard Hotel to celebrate the virtues of this humble grape. Originating in the Burgundy region of France, Pinot Noir wine is considered by some to be ‘the best red wine in the world.’ Typically showing red fruit in the form of cranberry, cherry and raspberry, other frequent aromas include vanilla, tobacco and caramel.

As it is a particularly difficult varietal to cultivate, Pinot Noir has developed an even greater reputation among connoisseurs. Guests are invited to sip and sample this multi-faceted varietal, accompanied by live music, canapés, blankets and umbrellas scattered on the grass, the Pinot Noir Festival will take place from 2pm – 5pm.

Says Matt Deitchman, the hotel’s Food & Beverage Manager, “We have hand-picked only the best South Africa Pinot Noir producers for the festival –  with participating estates including De Grendel, Waterford Estate, Meerlust and Creation. With wines of this calibre on offer, the hotel wants guests to be able to fully enjoy the festival – allowing Cape Town locals to enjoy the festivities without having to worry about driving home, and giving out-of-town guests a reason to visit the Cape for the weekend.”

The Pinot Noir Weekend Special will allow guests to check in on the Saturday afternoon, ahead of the Pinot Noir Festival the following day. After a leisurely breakfast on Sunday morning, they can meander down to the hotel’s lawns to enjoy the Pinot Noir Festival, before ending the weekend in one of the hotel’s Courtyard Rooms.

Tickets to the Pinot Noir Festival are R190 per person and need to be booked in advance directly with the hotel – guests can contact Muneerah on 021 657 4500 or eat@vineyard.co.za.
