De Grendel Twitter Wine Tasting Stirs Up Wine Fans

De Grendel Twitter Wine Tasting Stirs Up Wine Fans

De Grendel is equally respected for its wines and award-winning restaurant, so it was no surprise when the De Grendel team decided to offer fans of the brand a food and wine pairing experience. However, because De Grendel enthusiasts are not all fortunate enough to live in the Winelands, the estate decided to partner with Incogvino.co.za, and to host the pairing live on Twitter.

De Grendel Twitter Tasting Wine

De Grendel put together a special “Twitter Tasting Box” of six wines, which included a De Grendel corkscrew and some. The selection was sold exclusively on the De Grendel online store at www.degrendel.co.za. Clients were sent recipes for the dishes that they could prepare at home for the live tasting.

De Grendel Hospitality Consultant, Jonathan Davies, prepared beef Carpaccio with a warm mushroom salad (to be paired with De Grendel Op Die Berg Pinot Noir 2013) and a prawn risotto (to be paired with De Grendel Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc 2015), for the tasting held on March 31 at 7.00pm. While Davies prepped the meals, clients who had bought the Twitter Tasting Box shared images of their own versions of the dishes and peppered the resident foodie with questions about the wines and how the dishes were prepared. Users commented under the hashtag #TasteDeGrendel.

“Even though most of my dinner ‘guests’ were hundreds of kilometres away, we had a vibrant and intelligent debate about ingredients and where we source them from, and the tasting notes of the wines. I am sharing my passion for food and wine with them and discover what they thought of De Grendel wines,” says Davies.

De Grendel Social Media Coordinator, Hanro van Tonder, says the evening was a resounding success. “This event gave us a unique opportunity to interact with our fans from across the country, and even Namibia. The two-hour live event included a live video feed using the app Periscope, and it was refreshing for us to be using cutting-edge digital tools to share our knowledge about De Grendel. We were also thrilled with feedback from Incogvino.co.za that we achieved exceptionally high engagement levels for the Twitter Wine Tasting.” The live campaign reached almost 50 000 people during the two-hour event on Twitter with 1.15 million impressions.

De Grendel will be hosting another Twitter Wine Tasting with Incogvino.co.za later in 2016.
