De Grendel Estate is thrilled to announce that its esteemed Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc 2022 has achieved a prestigious accolade as a winner in the highly competitive annual FNB Sauvignon Blanc SA Top 10 competition. This recognition is a testament to the estate's commitment to crafting exceptional South African wines and its dedication to producing outstanding Sauvignon Blancs.
Each year, the FNB Sauvignon Blanc SA Top 10 competition brings together the finest winemakers and their exceptional Sauvignon Blanc offerings from across the country. The esteemed panel of judges rigorously evaluates these wines to select the very best, making De Grendel's victory all the more impressive. This year’s judging panel was convened by Cape Wine Master Dr Winifred Bowman and included the international wine judge and wine writer Fiona McDonald, Johann Fourie, head winemaker of Benguela Cove, De Grendel winemaker Morgan Steyn, Gregory Mutambe, sommelier of Rust en Vrede, as well as two protégés, Mahalia Kotjane, assistant winemaker of Lievland, and Shanice du Preez from De Grendel.
The Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc 2022, a true embodiment of the estate's passion for winemaking, stood out among a formidable field of competitors. Being a wooded wine, Koetshuis leans more towards a richer style with intense notes of minerality, gooseberries and a herbaceous nose and palate. Supported by a fresh acidity, this full-bodied wine boasts an exceptionally long finish and will be a great wine partner to vichyssoise, deep fried polenta and parmesan fries, West Coast crayfish, or a goat’s cheese and pear salad.
