Riedel Gift Option 3: Sir David Graaff First Baronet 2015

R 20,400.00

Includes 12 bottles of Sir David Graaff First Baronet of Cape Town 2015 and a FREE Riedel Performance decanter as well as 6 Riedel Veloce Cabernet wine glasses valued at R2845.

The Riedel Veloce Cabernet glass is perfect for full-bodied, complex red wines like the Sir David. Its diamond shape works beautifully for big and bold New World wines as the extreme angles offer more space to develop aromas. The generous size of this glass emphasises fruit and allows wines to achieve balance.

A decanter is a must-have for wine lovers, and all RIEDEL decanters are made of fine crystal glass to honour quality wines, such as the Rubaiyat, with the treatment they deserve. This decanter is designed to hold a single bottle of wine (750ml).

In honour of the life and legacy of Sir David Pieter De Villiers Graaff, the 1st Baronet of Cape Town, this red wine of exceptional quality was produced in tribute to the exemplary character and remarkable achievements of this great man.

This true legacy wine, a blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, is produced in limited quantities to last for over 20 years. Each individual bottle is numbered and supports the signature of Sir David Pieter De Villiers Graaff in remembrance of the responsibility bestowed upon his children by his legacy.

Deep ruby garnet in colour, the nose is perfumed by layers of cedar wood, white pepper and clove which aptly underscore delectable nuances of black plum, prune and mulberry fruit with afterthoughts of blackcurrant. An enticing entry of elegant dried cranberry on the palate evolves into rich plum flavours supported by nuances of savoury cassis and perfumed, sweet tobacco leaf lingering with a finish that is long and lusciously augmented by firm, rounded tannins.

This legacy wine calls for hearty meals – complex, concentrated layers of fruit and sweet, firm, rounded tannins will compliment rich stews and pair perfectly with venison, roast lamb or beef, while the finesse and elegance of the wine will stand up to matured cheeses such as Cheddar or Gouda.
The 2015 vintage was particularly dry and windy during flowering, which resulted in a 15% smaller crop in the coastal region. As a result of this, the harvest was 10 to 15 days earlier than normal, the vineyard growth was less, and the bunches were smaller. These conditions, however, produced berries with a much higher concentration of fruit flavours. Taking all of this inconsideration, the 2015 vintage has the potential to be one of the finest vintages in recent years – if not the best in recent memory.
Hand-selected, individually vinified and matured for 16 months in 100% new, tight grain French oak barrels before blending, the wine consists of 50% Shiraz, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. After blending, it was returned to the same new barrels and nurtured for a further 6 months. At a total of 22 months of maturation, this wine is the ultimate expression of longevity and potential.
